It's no secret that I should have been born a fiery red head. However, genetics stopped that one real quick.
So I have to do whatever it takes to get there.
I've dyed my hair countless times and all the times there has always been red tints.
The problem with red hair color is that it fades...and fast. No matter how amazing the product is you will lose color.
There are many factors:
- using hot water to wash hair (DO NOT DO THIS ANYWAY)
- hard water (thank you, Florida for this)
- washing your hair too often (invest in some dry shampoos)
- using thermal tools often
- red dye has larger molecules so the staying power is not that great
I dyed my hair true red about 3 weeks ago. I used a Pravana shade of red. I bought this color at a professional beauty supply, so unless you have a license, you won't be able to buy it yourself.
But as usual it started to fade into an orange blonde mess.

| This is what it looked like after two prelightening treatments and the all over color. |
 |
| This is what it looked like last night. It isn't too bad, but definitely not what I like. |

So I took matters into my own hands and decided I was going to fix this hot mess! Keep scrolling for the magic!
*****I am a
LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST. I know the proper steps for doing hair color at home. If you have any questions please ask me or any licensed cosmetologist first. I do mean LICENSED. We all have that friend that knows how to do hair, but always ask someone who actually did the time in school and earned that license. Not everyone will get the same results and I'd rather you be mad at someone who does this for a living than your friend who has a passion for it.
Also, I am not responsible for the outcome of your hair color. Please check the condition of your hair beforehand and always perform a strand test. More importantly, follow the manufacturer's directions.*****

| I picked this little beauty up at Sally's beauty supply. This product does not damage the integrity of your hair and it actually leaves it feeling super soft! This stuff doesn't require developer so don't waste money on that it won't help anything. |
 |
| Tools are important: gloves, mixing bowl, brush, and hair clips...also, get a processing cap if you remember...I forgot |
 |
| Then go ahead and part your hair into four sections and take pictures after it's done. P.S. invest in a shampoo cape. Stop ruining your old tshirts with hair dye! |
 |
| Evenly distribute that color by placing it in sections starting from your ends working your way to the root. Wait 30 to 40 minutes and rinse hair in cold water. You'll know it's ready to go once your shower stops looking like a murder scene. |

| Finished result in horrible bathroom lighting |
 |
| Horrible living room lighting with the flash |
 |
| And once again...horrible bathroom lighting! |
I love the final result. The color will fade with each wash, but it's meant to. If you want to go red make sure you are fully commited to the cause. It will be a pain in the rear sometimes, but I am in love with the color so I don't care.
Don't wear white for a few days, use a towel on your pillow, pretty much don't touch anything you love.
